The Nordic way – a culture of preparedness

In recent years, uncertainty has become a permanent part of the global business environment. Supply chain disruptions, geopolitical tensions, and fluctuations in raw material prices have forced companies to reassess their partnerships.

In this landscape, one factor rises above the rest: reliability.

According to Teampac’s Head of Procurement, Tero Paavola, reliability is built in everyday actions: through long-term supplier relationships, continuous dialogue, and above all, preparedness.

“We are in constant contact with our key suppliers so we always understand the situation – whether it’s about pricing or availability” Paavola explains.

Rather than optimizing for short-term gains, Teampac focuses on continuity and predictability – factors that become particularly critical when markets are unstable. A key element in this approach is active and continuous dialogue.

“We are in constant contact with our key suppliers and keep the lines open so we always understand the situation whether it’s about pricing or availability,” Paavola says.

A continuously updated situational overview not only enables fast reactions but builds ongoing readiness for what lies ahead. According to Paavola, the Finnish way of thinking emphasizes the ability to look ahead and take action.

“It’s important to see around the corner, to be aware of upcoming challenges and be prepared to face them.”

Teampac’s procurement model reflects ongoing development rather than any one defining transformation.

“The fundamentals were already in place at Teampac when I joined as Head of Procurement” Paavola notes. “The goal from the beginning was not to rebuild everything, but rather to take the procurement process to the next level.”

In practice, this has meant providing direction and strengthening the overall structure. Progress has not come from isolated actions, but from consistent, long-term development – refining day-to-day operations into a more strategic approach.

A key enabler in this process has been the team’s expertise. “I’ve had a strong team from the start, and many of the right things were already being done,” Paavola says. “This has allowed us to shift the focus from purely operational work towards more anticipatory and structurally driven development.”

This combination of planning, realism, and responsibility reflects a distinctly Nordic mindset. It may not manifest in bold promises, but it becomes evident in the moments when delivery reliability is truly tested.

In times of uncertainty, differences emerge through ways of working. For Teampac, long-term thinking is central – an approach whose value becomes most visible when conditions are least predictable.
